Welcome to Cosmos Online!

Hi this is Gordon! On this blog I showcase my first eBook I self-published a few years ago called Cosmos. This book is based on a book I wrote in my late teens about a character, Namuh, who found his self in a strange world inside a mysterious cosmos.

A Brief Synopsis

The book follows Namuh in his search to find the purpose and meaning to his existence. It is a journey in which Namuh struggles as he attempts to find the answers to his  questions that he struggles with. As he learns more about his surrounding world, he encounters mythical creatures that reveal to him he was a human being. The creatures will lead him to go through experiences that tach him about his origins. All try to convince him that the way they perceived humanity was the right one.

The question  remains whether Namuh will find the peace and comfort he is seeking...

The Story behind Cosmos

I originally wrote the manuscript between 1999 and 2000. However, it would take  some more years before I completed the final manuscript, on which this eBook is based. Indeed, I was assisted in refining the manuscript thanks to help of a number of people who taught me while I was completing my post-secondary education  and, later, as I was reading for a BA in English at the University of Malta. These included my two philosophy lectures who taught me at post-secondary level and my English tutor when I was studying at the University of Malta.

I appreciate the fact that all of them took time from their own spare time to read and review the drafts and even suggest any changes that might make this short work better. Even if my aspirations to publish this book through publisher never came true, I remain the indebted to these individuals for their support and assistance in producing this work.

Going Digital

I admit that I would put aside the copy of the final manuscript of Cosmos on a folder on my hard drive. In spite of the fact that I invested myself in writing this book as I was largely inspired to start writing it soon after I had been through a hard time at the hospital after suffering kidney problems. Even if I had thought of death before as a child, the fact that back then I had been more  close to death compelled me to take a look at my life. And, yes, I would eventually forget.   Even if my condition stabilised, over 2003 I had developed a visual impairment which became worse  - a side effect of the steroids I needed to control my condition.

It would take months for me to adjust to my visual impairment, given I tended to relied more on  visual media. Thanks to the support of many people I med during this crisis, I  I felt more independent to express myself as I learned the necessary skills  to enable me to use my computer as before but  with a screen reader. It was then that I would rediscover many writings I had forgotten which was scattered on my hard disk. To cut a long story short, I was glad to find the file containing the final manuscript of Cosmos.

As I became more aware how, at the time, blind or visually impaired people, had less  access to a significant number of books and, after having found that, as a visually impaired person myself, I could access a more accessible format such as PDF or eBooks, I thought it would be a good idea to try my hand at self-publishing and, thus, converted Cosmos to a PDF eBook.   As I gained more self-confidence browsing the internet with my screen reader, I also started blogging and created my first blog, Gordon's D-ZONE, back in 2005.

Eventually, I would create other blogs which you can find at gordonGD.com. In fact, Cosmos Online, was one of the first blogs to follow Gordon’s DZone. Cosmos Online originally contained a blog entry for each of the chapter in the eBook and a download link for the eBook. However, today I decided that it would be best to offer blog readers a sneak preview of the first 3 chapters and, if interested, may download the eBook for free from the link provided below.

Of course, one must keep in mind that the views I had when I wrote Cosmos may have changed and, I confess, if I had to rewrite this book today, I would do some changes for sure. But it was still was an achievement at the time that I'm happy to share with you today!

Best,

Gordon

About Me

My photo
I love blogging for the very same reason I love writing. It gives me the opportunity to express myself and my ideas to others. Yet, the great thing about blogs are their potential to reach out to people across the world. Blogging is also a means where I can explore thoughts and ideas, express my creativity and better examine who I am. As a disabled person, blogs are also tool to raise awareness about how society excludes us as disabled people through its failure to take us into account. Besides disability activism, I also enjoy creative writing and to read about a wide range of topics, ranging from science to philosophy which I also explore in my blogs.. I dream of a world that includes everyone, irrespective of our differences. A world where people have true equal rights and opportunities. A world where everyone is given the means to succeed and attain his/her full potential.
